Tri-Founder of the Lighthouse Luncheon, Ed Miles passes away

Our dear friend Ed Miles passed away this morning.
We are sad that his family will miss the pillar of care, strength, and encourgement he filled their lives with. We are sad that on earth we, his friends, no longer get to share his jovial wit, heartfelt laughter, and caring gestures. We rejoice that he is at home with his maker resting in peace, light, and beautiful harmony.
Ed Miles was a tri-founder of the LightHouse Luncheon along with the late Rev. Claude Black, and our friend Floyd Wilson. He was the Director of Community Projects for the Bexar County District Attorney's Office. Mr. Miles was appointed by Governor Bush to the Texas Medical Board in 1997 and reappointed by Governor Perry in 2003.
Gov. Rick Perry later appointed Mr. Miles to the Texas County and District Retirement System Board of Trustees. Mr. Miles previously served in the U.S. Air Force and as first director of the Work Release Program of the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office. He volunteered on the board of directors for the United Way and was adjunct professor of American and Texas Politics for Palo Alto, San Antonio, and St. Phillip’s colleges. He previously served as first vice president of the San Antonio Branch of the NAACP, president of Live Oak’s Economic Development Corporation, and mayor pro-tempore for the City of Live Oak. He was past president of the Academy Advisory Corporate Council of the of the Academy Advisory Corporate Council of the Academy of Creative Education, an alternative high school for the North East Independent School District where Mr. Miles served as Secretary-Treasurer of the board.

Ed cared and was not afraid to show it. He always took time to check on all of us calling and even stopping by to see how we were doing.
He always went out of his way to help others. He is a true example of a person who cared but also took time to put that care into action.

I was one out of the thousands of people Mr. Miles saw at the courthouse. Whenever I ran into him, he always remembered my name and always - ALWAYS - had a smile on his face and a kind word. What an amazing life and amazing person he was. I send my condolences to his family for their great loss. My prayers are with all of you.
Great Teacher and a Great Citizen. He will be missed.
I'm sorry to hear of Ed's passing. I met him many years ago during Leadership San Antonio and in all that time he remained a solid honest guy who cared about the "little guy." There's a big hole where Ed stood that won't easily be filled.
