Red Light Cameras flashing in Balcones Heights

L-R: KENS-5 Reporter Nydia Lopez, KENS-5 Photographer Jason Eggleston, KENS-5 Reporter looking over documents, KENS-5 vehicle, Balcones Heights City Administartor Sean Pate, KENS-5 Photographer Jason Eggleston, Balcones Heights Police Chief Bill Stannard interviewed on Red Light Cameras by reporter, computer designated to view video tape of violators

KENS-5 Reporters along with other TV stations are covering the progress of the Red Light Cameras. Earlier in the week KENS-5 Reporter Jessica Silva interviewed Balcones Heights Councilman Steve Walker.

The video cameras are flashing and if a motorist runs a red light in Balcones Heights, the consequence is a $148 dollar citation.

American Traffic Solutions (ATS) headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona is monitoring you at four intercetions to include three on Fredericksburg Road at Hillcrest, Crossroads Boulevard and Balcones Heights Boulevard. The other intersection is Hillcrest & Babcock.

When ATS cameras record the violation, the information is forwarded to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) for verification of ownership and mailing address and then forwards the video to the City for final judgement. That time frame is supposedly four days.

Once the police department approve the violation, it goes back to ATS and they send a citation that gives the violator 30 days to pay unless the motorist challenges it within 15 days. That process also takes four days.

Once the citation is in the mail the clock starts ticking on payment of the fine. If the motorist chooses to ignore the ticket, it is then turned over to an in-house collection agency. If the collection agency is unable to collect the fine it is then turned over to the Balcones Heights City Attorney to file in Justice of the Peace Court to obtain a judgement from the JP.

ATS then contacts the companies that issue credit reports and requests that the credit report reflect the failure to pay. The City of Balcones Heights receives its $108 dollars from the fine from ATS. The city does not receive any revenue from a citation until it is paid.

The debate rages over whether the installation is for safety reasons or for generating revenue for the city

Elena Guajardo to blockwalk again on Saturday

Elena Guajardo (photo)
District 7 Councilwoman

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

What a fantastic frenzy of a week Elena's Campaign has had! The responses as we go door to door, talking to the voters of District 7 have been very positive for Elena.

"We want two more years for Elena!""We want her re-elected!"

This is what we hear from the people of the District. Elena has been endorsed by the San Antonio Police Officers Assoc (SAPOA) and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). But we are not finished and we need still need your support.

Due to the large amount of supporters wanting to block walk for Elena, we will be sending three separate groups of block walkers throughout the District.

We will be meeting Saturday, March 31 at 9 a.m. and on Sunday, April 1 at 2 p.m.

Please call 410-0992 or e-mail rickidar@sbcglobal.net for meeting locations.

Join "TEAM ELENA" and help get Elena re-elected!

Thank you for your support.

Thank you again for your continued commitment to our campaign. Our grassroots effort is still going strong. Neighborhood by neighborhood, folks are responding to our positive message and our vision for a better District 7.

We will continue our block walking efforts this weekend beginning on Saturday morning. We will meet at 9:30 a.m. at our Campaign HQ, 2712 Hillcrest (near the Babcock intersection). Please come by for a breakfast taco and stay for the walking. For those that cannot make it Saturday, then you can join us on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the same location.

This weekend, we will also be participating in a couple of events that are very important to our community. The Komen Race for the Cure is set for early Saturday morning and the Cesar Chavez March will commence around midday. If you or anyone you know, would like to join us, please contact our office at (210) 733-7525.
We look forward to seeing you!

Warm regards,

Walker Report records 15-thousand hits on blog since Jan. 1oth and over 900 postings to date

The Walker Report has hit a couple of new milestones. Since January 10th, the site meter at the bottom of the blog has registered 15-thousand hits. People are reading the Walker Report in record numbers. We have also posted nearly 950 times since last June.

Numerous media types check out the Walker Report on a daily basis to see if we scooped them on breaking news. Elected officials and candidates from all sides of the political spectrum also read the Walker Report frequently.

Now that the city council races are the buzz, candidates are keeping tabs on their opponents and trying to get posted more on the Walker Report than the opposition.

Since Walker Report offers every candidate equal time and coverage for any race, the push for publicity is on. If candidates don't get posted here it is because they chose not to get posted or haven't sent me information to promote their campaign.

Since we have expanded to covering all kinds of political, religious and community events, more people are interested in checking us out. This blog is about people. We don't get bogged down on specific political issues, (right or left) we just take photos of those people at those events and give you some basic details on where it happened, when it happened and maybe why it happened. The Walker Report is informational. Think of me as media since I cover the media while they are covering you!

As a militarily trained, broadcast, print, photojournalist, I was taught to let the photos tell the story and just get out of the way if all possible. Many of our photos don't have a name to go with the photo. Taking so many photos I don't always know the person I photograph. If you log on and see a photo without an identification, feel free to email me at misterbalconesheights@yahoo.com

and tell me who it is. I can always go back and edit the name in. If you see words or names that are not spelled correctly, again email me and let me know. Everyone makes mistakes.

Business people and political people are asking if I sell ads. We are in the process of looking into that. Bear with me, that is coming soon with detailed information.

Quickly approaching the 1-thousand time to post, we forsee many more diverse postings and certainly some fun postings as well.

Keep reading Walker Report.
