City Year recruits young people for service committment

My name is Tramelle Jones. I am the Recruitment Manager for City Year San Antonio. City Year unites young people of all backgrounds for a year of full-time service, giving them the skills and opportunities to change the world. As tutors, mentors, and role models, these young leaders make a difference in the lives of children and transform schools and neighborhoods across the United States and in South Africa . We have been in San Antonio since 1995.

We are currently accepting applications for 4 slots to start in January. Our hope is that you may be able to make this opportunity available to young people you know. I'm referring to those ages 17-24 that may have recently graduated, not able to return to college due to financial hardship, or just may not have the resources to attend school this year. This is a full-time service commitment from January-June. We provide the following...

A modest living stipend of $165/ weekly
A college education award of $2,362 after completion of the service year (also can be used to pay back loans, loans can be deferred during service year)
Basic Health Care
Free Timberland Uniform
Free T-Mobile Phone
Free VIA bus pass
Tutoring training through San Antonio Youth Literacy
Leadership Training

81% of the Corps Members that complete our program return to school, either Undergrad or Graduate School , including 83% of alumni who came to City Year without a GED or high school diploma.

Many have gone on to or attended some the country's most prestigious colleges and universities, i.e. Univ. of Chicago , Illinois , Northwestern, Syracuse , Washington Univ., Howard, Spelman , Michigan , Yale, Columbia (NY), Cornell and Oxford in England .

Our efforts are deliberate to have a diverse corps every year, one that reflects the ethic, economic, and educational make-up of our city.
