Walker announces run for Justice of the Peace

Walker Report Publisher/Editor Steve Walker (photo) officially announced his candidacy for Commissioner's Court Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace, Place 1 on the Chris Duel Show on KTSA, Thursday, July 5th.

The former Balcones Heights Councilman who recently stepped down after eight years on the Council will run to secure the Democratic Primary nomination for the seat in March 2008 and challenge the Republican incumbent in the general election in November of 2008.

Interviewed numerous times on the Chris Duel Show over the past seven months on his opposition to the installation of Red-Light Cameras in Balcones Heights based on the civil citations rather than criminal violations, Duel offered Walker the chance to declare his intentions to run for higher office, live on his show, some weeks ago. Duel's show airs weekdays in drive time from 4-7 p.m.

Duel pointed out during the interview to his listening audience that Walker was the lone maverick Councilman who voted against the Red-Light Cameras which was a cause of controversy that culminated in the State Legislature passing Senate Bill 1119 which capped the amount of fine any city could assess on violators for running a red light. The cap is $75.

It was also noted that the bill also required that cities split half the revenue collected on the violations with the state and use their share for child safety. Governor Rick Perry signed the bill which takes effect September 1st.

During the 20 minute interview, Duel also promoted Walker's blog and encouraged listeners to go to Walker's website to read about local events.
