“The quest for dignity and human rights should not be something we celebrate annually. It should be something we live and breathe daily in the lives we live and our concern for others," Peter Sakai says.”

The full page ad containing this quote with the image of Democratic Judicial Candidate Peter Sakai was printed in over fifteen thousand collectible programs commemorating the annual Juneteenth Celebration Gala, sponsored by the African American Reflections magazine.

The program, published by Kat-C Productions, was given to attendees at the Gala and has been distributed in locations throughout San Antonio’s East Side and in the Black community churches.

There was Peter Sakai, once again putting his image and his message where no other candidate, Democrat or Republican, was seen. He has since received a plethora of kudos and congratulations from elected officials and the public in general on both the ad and its placement.

It’s a beautiful ad, with a great message. I know Peter, and I know that he means what he says. He was the only one in that program. I noticed that.

"I want this piece in my newspapers,” said T.C. Calvert, President of Advertising for the San Antonio Observer Newspaper Group, and local civil rights leader.

Says Judge Sakai of the ad, “I want to reach voters in ways that are unique, and creative yet still carry the sincerity of my message of hope for children and families."

Kathy Clay-Little presented a wonderful opportunity.Sakai was honored at the Gala with the Frederick Douglass Emancipation award for his commitment to freeing children from the danger and oppression of child abuse.

Normally, African-American Reflections does not give awards to persons actively seeking election to public office. However, an exception was made in honor of Judge Sakai, whose work is seen by the organization as transcending politics.
