Happy Thanksgiving from Senator Wendy Davis, 11-28
It's Thanksgiving, and we have so much to be thankful for. This year and every
year, I'm thankful for my beautiful daughters Amber and Dru, the two greatest
blessings in my life. I am especially thankful for the gift of my mom's
continued presence in my life. Though she and my dad had been apart for many
years prior to his passing this year, she and I will join my siblings and my
girls in remembrance of the precious gift that was my dad.
His absence this year will make us each even more grateful for each other. Thanksgiving won't be the same without him at my doorstep, shaking off the cold and extolling the virtues of our meal's aroma.
My dad would no doubt join me in tremendous gratitude for each of you who have stepped up and joined Team Wendy over the last few months. We are building something incredible together, and I'm so grateful for your dedication and your tremendous support.
And like many of you, I'm thankful for Texas. The opportunities I had here made all the difference in my life. I had the chance to get an education. I had the support to turn years of hard work into a better life for myself and my family. If it weren’t for those opportunities, I certainly wouldn't be where I am today.
This year, I’m grateful for the chance to make sure the next generation of Texans has the same opportunities I had growing up. And, of course, I'm looking forward to the annual Thanksgiving tradition I share with my girls - making homemade turkey pot pies with winter vegetables from our leftover Thanksgiving turkey. We are blessed with the luxury of "leftovers." It is my hope to make that luxury a reality for every Texan.
On behalf of my entire family, have a safe and happy Thanksgiving.
Wendy Davis
State Senator

Happy Thanksgiving from Atty. General Greg Abbott, 11-28
Cecilia and I have
much to be thankful for this year—a lovely daughter, Audrey, great friends, and
amazing supporters like you.
At this tumultuous
time in our nation’s history, it’s easy to forget the bountiful blessing of
freedom abundant to all who call this nation home. We are the freest people on
Earth, because we have the bravest men and women serving in the United States
Military.
Today we pause to give thanks for the sacrifice of our heroes, for the blessing of family and friendship, and for the opportunity to live in the greatest Republic in the history of civilization.
We hope you have a memorable Thanksgiving celebration, and a joyous start to this holiday season.
Sincerely,
Greg Abbott

Thanksgiving Message from Congressman Pete Gallego, 11-28
Thanksgiving is a special time and a special holiday. But, it doesn’t have to be
the only time of the year we give thanks for what we have. In fact, all of us
have many things to be grateful for every day. This Thanksgiving and every day
this year, I have given thanks for the incredible privilege of representing our
area in the U.S. Congress.
Growing up in Alpine, who would have thought that possible?
For me, being a Member of Congress is not about the title or about politics. It's about doing the right thing for the country we love, our great State of Texas, and for all who live in the 29 counties I represent. In West Texas, we are a practical people who deal with the realities of survival in a region known for hardships. We like to get things done. In Congress, my voting record reflects my our regional consensus that patriotism should be above both partisanship and politics.
Recently, the National Journal, a national publication covering Congress and the federal government recently scored me among the ten most bipartisan Democrats in Congress. I am proud of that. I want to break the gridlock - not contribute to it. My job as a Member of Congress is to find solutions - not create more problems. From my votes to end the government shutdown, to improving the challenges of the Affordable Care Act, to promoting a sound farm bill, my votes track the desires of the pragmatic West Texas that I was raised in.
I continue to travel across all the 29 counties in the 23rd District and meet with constituents to hear their thoughts on critical issues. I receive hundreds of phone calls per day and thousands of emails per week. This feedback is essential to the job you have asked me to perform on your behalf. I take my job and the trust you have bestowed in me very seriously.
This is truly a land of great opportunity. I know this. From my fathers restaurant to the halls of Congress has been a long journey. I am so grateful for the opportunities that I have had - and for the faith my neighbors have bestowed on me.
Thanks to all of you who live and work in the 23rd District of Texas. Thanks for the privilege of being your representative and the trust you place in me - today and every day.

Happy Thanksgiving Message from Senator Ted Cruz, 11-28
Greetings,
Today, we celebrate the blessings of a people dedicated to
liberty.
Our forefathers fled religious prosecution to pursue the
freedom of conscience in the New World, a bedrock principle we must continue to
protect.
As the pilgrims in their November 1620 Mayflower Compact,
their very first governing framework, wrote: “ solemnly and mutually, in the
Presence of God and one another, covenant and combine ourselves together into a
civil Body Politick, for our better Ordering and Preservation.”
A year later they thanked God for his providence, their
first harvest, and a new land of opportunity. It was the nation’s very first
Thanksgiving.
Despite the many trials they
faced, they expressed gratitude for the opportunity to live freely.
President Calvin Coolidge reminded us nearly a century
ago: “We have been a most favored people. We ought to be a most generous people.
We have been a most blessed people. We ought to be a most thankful people.”
And, we are.
This Thanksgiving, Heidi and I wish you and your family
the very best, and may God continue to bless the Great State of Texas and the
United States of America.
All the best,
Ted Cruz
Thanksgiving-A Proclamation by President Abraham Lincoln
A Proclamation
1863
The year that is drawing toward its close has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften the heart which is habitually insensible to the everwatchful providence of almighty God.
In the midst of a civil war of unequaled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign states to invite and provoke their aggressions, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere, except in the theater of military conflict; while that theater has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union.
Needful diversions of wealth and of strength from the fields of peaceful industry to the national defense have not arrested the plow, the shuttle, or the ship; the ax has enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well of iron and coal as of the precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than heretofore. Population has steadily increased, notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege, and the battlefield, and the country, rejoicing in the consciousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years with large increase of freedom.
No human counsel hath devised, nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the most high God, who while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy.
It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently, and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and one voice by the whole American people. I do, therefore, invite my fellow-citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next as a day of thanksgiving and praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the heavens.
And I recommend to them that, while offering up the ascriptions justly due to him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to his tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners, or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the almighty hand to heal the wounds of the nation, and to restore it, as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes, to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquillity, and union.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the United Stated States to be affixed.
Abraham Lincoln, President
