Surf's Up, a pithy local guide to riding the web

Thanks to the Web 2.0 evolution, ‘hyper local’ is reportedly on the lips of every major media conglomerate, (read it in the New York Times=must be true) but skeptics including those at the Current, wonder if the big dailies can ever accomplish the authentically hyper local detail of a blog like the Walker Report, www.walkerreport.blogspot.com. (and we are not just saying that cause he sound so Blue)

Maintained by Balcones Heights Councilman Stephen Walker, the Walker Report forefronts the grease that makes local government and hangers-on work and play well together: Judicial investitures, holiday parties, press conferences, and media, (Associate Editor Keli Dailey has made an appearance) often with lots of pictures.

Although the site sometimes takes a hard-bitten political tack-recently allegedly retired wheeler-dealer T. J. Connolly posted his 2007 predictions-the Walker Report just as often sounds old-fashioned neighborly and that’s not a bad thing.

We also can’t help but agree with the site’s pick of Ciro Rodriguez Campaign Manager Gina Castaneda as 2006 Political Person of the Year-Castaneda was featured in the Current’s 2006 Best of San Antonio issue too.
