City Library embarks on "Be One in a Million" recruiting drive

From Councilman Justin Rodriguez

Dear Friends,

Last summer, I, along with my colleague John Clamp, met with a group of library advocates to discuss ways we could raise awareness for our public library system. After a series of meetings, we decided to embark on a membership drive to get new library cards in the hands of hundreds of thousands of our fellow citizens.

We kicked off the campaign, called "Be One in a Million," this past Saturday with the help of our very generous corporate sponsor Scholastic, Inc. Our goal, as the name suggests, is to get our library card memberships to surpass the one million mark.

Currently, our library system has approximately 700,000 members in the San Antonio metro area. I have challenged each of my Council colleagues to recruit 30,000 new members each in their respective districts.

But, we will only get there with your help. Of course, our true goal will be reached when we have measurable reductions in our illiteracy ates and number of high school drop-outs. Please join us in becoming a more well read city.

Get your library card now and encourage your friends, family members and co-workers to "Be One in a Million!"

Warmest regards,

Justin Rodriguez
District 7 Councilman
