Rx Art: Take your medicine.

What started as a simple idea--an exhibit of art work made by doctors, nurses, therapists, and bodyworkers accompanied by statements about how their art influences self-care (the mandate "Physician, heal thyself" kept surfacing )or the care of their patients--has morphed into Rx Art (Prescription: Art), a celebration of the importance of the arts as healer and renewer of individual lives and of communities.

Through this program, organized by Bihl Haus Arts (www.bihlhausarts.org) and the Health and Healing Consortium (www.hhcinfo.org), which consists of an exhibit, series of five workshops, and a fundraiser, we bring awareness about the social and economic value of art as a healing therapy.

This counters the image of the arts as esoteric and impractical. A lot of people have had their art egos bruised and can't imagine a personal healing relationship with the arts. But the benefits are great and people need to know about it.
