CPS Energy is taking public comment on its proposed multi-billion dollar expansion of the South Texas Nuclear Project in Bay City, Texas. Please show up and go to the microphone and tell CPS Energy to do efficiency and renewable energy projects instead.

Even with federal subsidies, nuclear power is too expensive. It is not a net saver of fossil fuel emissions, because of the huge energy cost in developing the fuel and perpetually safeguarding the radioactive waste. The U.S. already has 70,000 tons of nuclear waste, generated over 60 years, which has no permanent home. Nevada will understandably not allow the Yucca Mountain site to be opened.

The continued creation of gene-altering cancer-causing permanently radioactive waste is a crime against all future generations. Other cities, like Austin and Sacramento, and governments, like Germany, have made the decision to “go green” on energy—we can too.
