Picnic in the Park draws hundreds of Democrats

The Bexar County Democratic Party and the Northeast Democrats hosted their annual Picnic in the Park , a city-wide celebration of Labor Day for 4 hours, September 4th at Brackenridge Park in the Joske Pavilion.

Sodas, tea, hot dogs & chips were aplenty as elected officials & candidates motivated the crowd with stump speeches, handed out bumper stickers, campaign literature and yard signs for the official kickoff of the fall campaign to elect Democrats locally and statwide.

Various candidates and their volunteers set up table displays with their campaign or promotional materials.

Those elected officials who participated included: Congressman Charlie Gonzalez, State Rep. Ruth Jones McClendon, Judges Al Alonzo, Michael Mery, David Rodriguez, Karen Pozza, Paul Canales, Barbara Nellermoe, Commissioners Paul Elizondo & Tommy Adkisson, SA Council members Patti Radle and Richard Perez, & Balcones Heights Councilman Steve Walker.

Also Party Deputy Chair Diana Stallings, NE Democrats Chair Ian Straus, DemVets Chair Larry Romo, SDEC25 Committeeman and Woman Michael Wilson, & Zada True-Courage, & SDEC Committeewoman Madeleine Dewar were present.

Judicial candidates included: Eddie De La Garza, Dan Pozza, Gloria Saldana, Carlton Spears, Ray Olivarri, Barbie Scharf-Zeldes and Catherine Torres-Stahl.

Congressional candidate John Courage, State Senator candidate Kathi Thomas, State Rep. candidate Larry Stallings, Lt. Governor candidate Maria Alvarado and Agricultural Commissioner Hank Gilbert also attended.
