2014 Order of the Cascaron Inductees, E. Gonzaba, D. Jauer

Of the 75,000 volunteers who assist in Fiesta® activities, some volunteers go above and beyond the usual duties of any Fiesta® position. In 1992, the "Order of the Cascarón" was established to recognize the extended efforts of these "Super Volunteers" who have made singularly outstanding contributions to Fiesta®. Members of the Order of the Cascarón have made contributions which clearly reflect extraordinary achievements and have made a positive long lasting effect on Fiesta®.

The Fiesta® San Antonio Commission would like to congratulate the 2014 Order of the Cascarón Inductees: Erica Gonzaba has uniquely committed herself as an at-large ambassador promoting Fiesta®. She is an accomplished vocalist, songwriter and performer--and contributes an enormous amount of time and effort promoting Fiesta® San Antonio.   For example, she was the invited performer to sing the national anthem for both President George W. Bush and President Barack Obama-and was the featured special performer for the recent Valero Alamo Bowl. She was chosen over thousands of applicants to appear as a contestant on the hit television show Objectivo Fama, known as the Spanish "American Idol." Numerous PMOs have asked her to perform at their events-the Rey Feo Gala, St. Mary's Oyster Bake, Fiesta® Opening Ceremonies, the Palo Alto College PAC Fest--just to name a few. She can also be heard every year singing for our own San Antonio Spurs. Additionally, she serves as the TV spokesperson for the San Antonio Parks and Recreation department. She most recently came to the rescue of the Fiesta® Flambeau® parade that was in dire need of volunteers to man the first aid stations along the parade routes. Erica proceeded to commit the staff of a professional medical company in 2013, and once again has them committed for the 2014 parade. Erica's list of accomplishments go on and on, and we congratulate you!   David  Jauer is a Past President of the Travis Chapter of the Sons of the Republic of Texas, has been a PMO Commissioner for many years and is completing his third year as an Elected Commissioner--serving on the Building Committee, Compliance Committee and the new PMO Relations Committee.   Every year he helps lead Alamo Chapter's official event "This Hallowed Ground" that tells the story of the Alamo. He co-authored the copyrighted script and handouts given to spectators.   In 1986 he designed their first Fiesta® medal and has continued to design their medal for the last 28 years. He writes story boards that accompanies each medal explaining the historical significance for that year. He also judges the Texas History Poster/Essay contests that the Alamo Chapter awards prizes to during Fiesta®.   He is remembered fondly by Cascarón members as the sole coordinator of the annual River Parade Party. Months in advance he planned the menu, set ups and entertainment for out-of-town dignitaries, Former Presidents of the Commission, honored donors and the office staff. He hosted this party for 33 years for no reason other than for other's enjoyment of Fiesta®.   Additionally, for many years, David designed the Fiesta® medal for the Beethoven's Society.
