Judicial candidate DeWalt endorses Crystal Chandler for CC#13

Opponent Endorses Crystal Chandler as the Republican Nominee

Eric DeWalt, recent Republican primary judicial candidate for County Court #13, is throwing his support behind Crystal Chandler for judge.

County Court #13 is a county-wide criminal court specially designated to handle misdemeanor family violence cases.

DeWalt, a Bexar County attorney with more than 12 years of criminal law experience, was first an assistant district attorney with the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office and is now in private practice.

“Although my journey for the bench has come to an end for now,” he stated, “the passion for the subject matter -- domestic violence -- that comes before this bench continues. Our community deserves not only the best qualified candidate serving as judge of the court, but one with special experience dealing with these challenging cases.”

While an assistant criminal district attorney, DeWalt worked in the Family Violence and Victim Protection Division.

It was an honor representing our community as a prosecutor in this unit, because I handled serious family violence cases and crimes against children which are challenging and gut-wrenching," said DeWalt. "While in the Family Violence Division, I worked with many talented and dedicated prosecutors, including Crystal Chandler, whose shared goal was to protect victims of domestic abuse and seek justice.”

Chandler, a criminal lawyer for more than 16 years, came in first place in the Republican primary with 41.75 percent of the votes. Her career includes two years as a briefing attorney at Texas’ highest criminal court, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. For the last 14 years she has served as an assistant criminal district attorney. During this time, Chandler has tried felony family violence cases at every level. She is a founding member of Truckers Against Trafficking, a non-profit engaged in the fight to end human trafficking.

DeWalt concluded, “I am putting my full support behind Chandler, because she has the character, experience and judgment needed for this specialized family violence court.”
