9th Annual Blessing of the Peacemakers/Poet Laureates, 1-26

We begin at 5:30 p.m. with a glorious hour-long interfaith celebration of the ALL the peacemakers (that means you!) in our midst, rich with music and mystery.

You will be introduced to the 2014 San Antonio Peace Laureates and hear their hopes and prayers for the coming year of compassion, peace and justice. We end the evening with the best potluck dinner in the city.

Bring a dish to share, if you can -- vegetarian food is especially welcome as it accommodates most of our interfaith friends The Blessing of the Peacemakers is a San Antonio tradition that launches the annual Season for Nonviolence and a new year in Compassionate San Antonio's Pilgrimage of Compassion.

The idea for a San Antonio Peace Laureate arose at “Soul of a Citizen,” a city-wide conversation about the intersection of faith and politics held in November 2007. The peaceCENTER took on the project to honor a voice of wisdom and experience to speak for peace and justice in San Antonio. To our knowledge, San Antonio is the first -- and only -- city in the world to appoint a Peace Laureate. Past Laureates have been:
2008: Dr. Ruth Lofgren
2009: The late Rev. Dr. Claude Black
2010: Jane & Charles Tuck
2011: Patti & Rod Radle
2012: Imam Omar Shakir
2013: Sr. Martha Ann Kirk & the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word.
