Tommy Calvert's press release on his run for Comm. Pct. 4

Tommy Calvert will file to run as the Democratic Party nominee for Bexar County Commissioner Precinct 4 on Monday, December 9th at 4 p.m.at the Bexar County Democratic Party Headquarters (3000 IH-10 at Mulberry).

Calvert is a long-time trusted public servant in Precinct 4 and has the top track record of service of any candidate running in Precinct 4. By the time he was 17, he was appointed in 1998 by the city council as an aide in District 2 to Councilman Mario Salas.

He served the people of Precinct 4 as aide to State Representative Ruth Jones McClendon. He was director of special projects for Congressman Ciro Rodriguez.

He is a lifelong member of the Neighborhoods First Alliance, where as a young man he organized and mobilized residents from Precinct 4 to win over $150 million dollars in street, drainage, parks, and housing improvements.

Calvert has a strong track record of public safety in the race as he personally went into the crime-ridden Spring Hill Apartments in the northeast part of Precinct 4, to organize residents in a public housing facility, to take back their neighborhood from illegal criminal and drug activity. Calvert has also been an international leader on human trafficking in the US and abroad as a contractor for federal entities fighting organized crime and terrorist networks.

Calvert’s successful multi-issue track record on behalf of the people of Precinct 4 will be highlighted along the campaign trail and includes helping local small businesses for decades and now most recently as a founder of the Fair Contracting Coalition, which includes the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Asian Chamber of Commerce, Alamo City Black Chamber of Commerce and numerous civic organizations.

Calvert supported the bond for the Frank Bryant Clinic, was on the 2007 City/County bond committee representing District 2 on the drainage committee, and is the only known candidate in the race that is a high-ranking appointee of commissioner Tommy Adkisson as his representative for Precinct 4 on the Alamo Regional Mobility Authority.

“I’m running to make Bexar County work for everybody and ensure that the County is open for business to all in our business community. I’ll always have an open door policy and ensure that government is accountable, transparent, and gets things done,” exclaimed Calvert.
