650 San Antonio leaders will gather for the Sixth Annual Fabulous Holiday
Brunch, Saturday, December 14th from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. @ the OMNI Hotel, 9821 Colonnade Blvd.
Community leader Rosie
Castro, mother of Mayor Julian Castro and Congressman Joaquin Castro, will be
featured speaker at the event. Ms. Castro will speak about “The Transformative
Power of Education and the Individual's Ability to Affect Positive Change in Our
Community.”
Event co-founder
Martha Tijerina explains, “Our all-volunteer effort is done through a
partnership with Department of Services for Women & Non-Traditional Students
which is located at the San Antonio College Empowerment Center. Funds raised by
the Fabulous Brunch which go to the Alamo Colleges Foundation, are designated to
help displaced homemakers, single parents, victims of violence and other
non-traditional students who are enrolled at the Center.”
Over its six-year
history, Fabulous Brunch organizers have raised more than $ 271,400 and assisted
over 350 GED students to date. Success of the Fabulous Brunch has allowed
volunteer organizers to help even more students through the Rising Stars
Scholarship and the new GED Empowerment to College Endowed Scholarship fund.
