Christopher Columbus Italian Society ground-breaking, 8-16

Join The Christopher Columbus Italian Society and Piazza Di Colombo in a ground-breaking at Piazza di Colombo Park (formerly Columbus Park), 500 Columbus Street, on Friday, August 16, 2013 at 11 a.m.  Piazza di Colombo Park is located at the corner of Columbus and Martin Streets, directly in front of San Francesco di Paola Catholic Church and Columbus Hall.

The ground-breaking marks the renaming of Columbus Park to Piazza di Colombo Park with the construction of new signage championed by District 1 Councilman Diego Bernal and the City of San Antonio Parks & Recreation Department. The design is the work of local architect Roberto Carlos Trevino.

This initial ground-breaking marks the beginning of a transformation in San Antonio’s historic Italian community and the development of Little Italy San Antonio (LISA).  For more information on Piazza di Colombo Park or LISA, please contact Columbus Hall at (210) 223-8284 or Frank Monaco at (210) 533-3511.

The Christopher Columbus Italian Society was chartered under the laws of Texas on the 14th of May 1890.  The Society manages Historic Columbus Hall and hosts the popular “Spaghetti Dinners” in downtown San Antonio, Texas.

Piazza Di Colombo is a 501c3 organization dedicated to the preservation and cultivation of the Italian cultural heritage in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas.  Piazza Di Colombo promotes the restoration, expansion and oversight of Piazza di Colombo Park.
