San Antonio Professional Firefighters Association endorses Nirenberg
The San Antonio Professional Firefighters Association endorsed Ron Nirenberg in the runoff for City Council, District 8 on Thursday. The endorsement is another victory for Nirenberg, who won 49.53% of the vote in the May 11th City Council election, just 34 votes shy of avoiding a runoff.
The runoff election is Saturday, June 15th, with early voting from June 3 - June 11. District 8 City Councilman Reed Williams is not running for re-election.
“I am honored and humbled to have the support of our San Antonio firefighters,” Nirenberg said. “That the first responders we trust to protect our lives and ensure our safety have put their support behind me means a lot.”
Nathan Alonzo, Legislative Director for the San Antonio Professional Firefighters Association, said the group felt it was important to get behind the candidate that would make sure the citizens of District 8 had the highest quality Fire and EMS protection.
“Ron Nirenberg is a leader we know the citizens of District 8 can trust, just like they trust their firefighters,” Alonzo said. “He supports our mission as firefighters in putting our lives on the line to protect and serve the citizens of San Antonio. He has certainly earned our respect and we feel that he will make the citizens of District 8 proud.”
In addition to firefighters, Nirenberg has received endorsements from former Mayors Phil Hardberger and Howard Peak as well as former Councilwoman Bonnie Conner. Mike Kueber, a third candidate in the race, has also endorsed Nirenberg in the June 15 runoff.
A graduate of Trinity University and the University of Pennsylvania, Nirenberg currently serves as Associate General Manager of KRTU.
