The passing of Fox News Anchor Karen Martinez touches many

Karen Martinez, KABB-TV's chief anchorwoman, died Monday night from breast cancer.

Since being diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer in her right breast in 2009, she had remained on the air when she wasn't too sick, telling her story and raising awareness about the disease.

Martinez, who was 37, is survived by her husband, Joseph, and three children, Josh, Miranda and Mitchell.

A public memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, February 21st at Castle Ridge Mortuary, 8008 Military Drive West.
"Her smile and her laugh and her spirit were amazing," Michael Valdes, her KABB co-anchor, said Tuesday, his voice full of emotion. "There was no quit in her. I had convinced myself that we had a miracle warrior on our side."

On Tuesday, the Texas Senate honored Martinez by adjourning early.

"Karen's courage with breast cancer inspired us all," Sen. Leticia Van de Putte said. "Karen always said she loved the news, and she loved San Antonio."
The Houston Chronicle contributed to this report.
