RON NIRENBERG OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCES FOR CITY COUNCIL, DISTRICT 8
SAN ANTONIO-Promising to “listen hard and work even harder,” Ron Nirenberg officially announced his candidacy Saturday for San Antonio City Council, District 8. The seat is currently held by Reed Williams, who is not seeking re-election.
“I believe in substance over style ... action, not words,” Nirenberg told nearly a hundred supporters at Orsinger Park.
In a speech that stressed accountability and ethics, Nirenberg said, “I believe first and foremost in responsible and transparent management of your money,” pledging to “shine the bright light of public scrutiny on the people’s business to ensure government is accountable to you the taxpayer.”
Nirenberg promised independent leadership free from any conflicts of interest or even the appearance of conflict, stressing the need for tougher ethics rules at City Hall.
Nirenberg highlighted the need for better infrastructure and an emphasis on public safety to keep pace with recent growth in District 8, as well as continuing to bring good new jobs to San Antonio.
“All of what we want to accomplish – a strong and dynamic community, managed conservatively and supported by solid infrastructure, a growing economy and safer neighborhoods – can be achieved by all of us working together,” Nirenberg said.
Nirenberg also released his Vision for District 8, a document detailing his comprehensive plan for the future of the community. Former Mayor Phil Hardberger praised Nirenberg’s plan, calling it “a thoughtful analysis from someone who wants to serve his city in an intelligent way that will further the average person’s interests.”
In addition to Hardberger, Nirenberg has been endorsed by former District 8 Councilwoman Bonnie Conner and former Mayor Howard Peak.
A graduate of Trinity University, Nirenberg currently serves as Associate General Manager of KRTU, Trinity’s radio station. He and his wife Erika Prosper, a respected business and community leader, live in the Summerfield neighborhood in District 8 with their son Jonah.
