Letter to the Editorial Board Editor:
Thank you to the Express
News for the valuable service it gives to the community by providing information
about political candidates. Voters want and need to be informed about the people
they are voting for. Many people rely heavily on the Express News' endorsement
of candidates.
That is why it is so important that due diligence be used in
getting information about the candidates. Sometimes it is easy to
learn about political candidates because of the office they are seeking, such as
state senators or representatives.
That information is readily available because those candidates are frequently the subject of widely-covered news events and receive coverage from all types of media.
But getting information about other candidates, such as those seeking judicial office, is not as easy to obtain.
Judicial candidates rarely are the subject of news events. Many voters learn
about a judicial candidate because they know an attorney. Voters can go to the
Texas Bar website, www.texasbar.com, to view a
basic profile of a particular Texas attorney. They can also view public records
at the Bexar County District Clerk's or County's Clerk's offices to see what
cases the attorneys have been involved with.
Certain facts were not
discussed at the Editorial Board meeting, and I believe it is critically
important that voters know all the facts before they vote. A summary of those
facts is attached.
