Memorial Day message from Senate hopeful Cruz, 5-28

America is defined by our freedom, making it the shining city on the hill for all mankind. But what would our freedom be without the will, courage and determination to defend it? That our Constitution still holds firm, that our flag still holds meaning, is a testament to the men and women of our Armed Forces who stood up when our nation gave its call, and particularly those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Every day we live in freedom is a day purchased by their blood.

Texans have always been at the forefront, and many Texans have given their lives for our country. Men like World War II sub commander and Medal of Honor recipient Sam Dealey – for whom Dealey Plaza in Dallas is named. Men like Dorrie Miller of Waco, who earned the Navy Cross for his heroism at Pearl Harbor, only to die in action a year later. And ordinary men and women, whose names may not adorn monuments, yet who served, fought and sacrificed for our freedom.

This Memorial Day, we should pause and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, and pray for those those who are currently serving, as well as the families and friends who are standing beside them.

Heidi and I join countless Americans in giving our heartfelt thanks to those men and women, who, through their selfless action, are preserving our liberty and our security. We love you, we appreciate you, and we thank you.

Sincerely

Ted Cruz
Republican for Senate
