Democrats have fielded challengers to all five Republican 4th Court of Appeals Justices justices who are on the ballot this year. But Democratic voters face only one contested 4th Court race in the May 29th primary.
Rebeca C. Martinez and Carmen Samaniego are competing for the nomination to challenge Place 7 Justice Phylis Speedlin. We recommend Martinez.
After graduating from the Boston University School of Law, Martinez served two years as a briefing attorney for former Justice Federico G. Hinojosa on the 13th Court of Appeals. She has been in private practice for 20 years, building a strong record working for defendants and plaintiffs. She started private practice in McAllen and later moved to San Antonio.
Samaniego received her law degree in 2000. Martinez's more extensive experience and clear dedication to the law make her the better Democratic choice.
