State Senator Judith Zaffirini files for re-election, Nov. 28th


Senator Judith Zaffirini, D-Laredo, today filed her candidacy for re-election to the Texas Senate in 2012.

The second-highest ranking senator will run in a newly configured Senate District (SD) 21. The new Senate District 21 includes all or part of 18 counties, namely, Atascosa, Bee, Caldwell, Bexar, Duval, Guadalupe, Hays, Jim Hogg, Karnes, La Salle, Live Oak, McMullen, San Patricio, Starr, Travis, Webb, Wilson and Zapata.

Senator Zaffirini has been recognized repeatedly for her tireless leadership and work ethic. She is the only legislator in the nation with an impressive career-long 100 percent voting record, having cast 47,584 consecutive votes since January, 1987.

"Serving in the Texas Senate continues to afford countless opportunities to make a difference for Texas families," Senator Zaffirini said. "I am humbled by the honor of working diligently on their behalf."

She serves as Chair of the Senate Higher Education Committee; Co-Chair of the Legislative Oversight Committee on Higher Education Governance, Excellence and Transparency; and as a member of the Legislative Budget Board and of the Senate Committees on Finance, Redistricting, health and Human Services, Economic Development and Administration.

Senator Zaffirini holds B.S., M.A. and PhD degrees from The University of Texas at Austin.
