More than 100 Participants Expected
The Hispanic Institute's (THI) Texas Civic Engagement Initiative 2012 commences this week with THI's Texas Civic Engagement and Leadership Institute, August 12th through the 14th at UTSA's University Center Ballroom, 1 UTSA Circle, San Antonio, Texas, 78249. The training event kicks-off with a program beginning Friday, August 12th, at 6:00 p.m., THI Texas Civic Engagement Initiative 2012 Honorary Chairman Mayor Julián Castro is scheduled to deliver the welcoming address.
THI Founding Board Member and San Antonio native Andres Gonzalez stated, "It is indeed a great privilege to have one of the strongest and most committed Hispanic elected officials in the nation serving as Honorary Chairman of this initiative. Mayor Castro lends credibility and purpose to what we plan to do in Texas, and his leadership will ensure the project's success."
The training program designed by THI, a nonpartisan, non-profit organization, will promote commitment to public service, educational achievement, and community empowerment, as well as voter registration and get-out-the-vote efforts. A national panel of facilitators will conduct the training. Interested individuals may find more information and apply online at http://thitexas2012.com/.
In keeping with its mission to provide "an effective education forum for an informed and empowered Hispanic America," The Hispanic Institute seeks to promote -- and grow -- the participation of Hispanics in civic engagement and the electoral process.
