The Guadalupe to Host Tribute for Late Poet Angela De Hoyos
Mayor Julian Castro to Make Special Presentation
Mayor Julian Castro will make a special presentation at a tribute in memory of the late San Antonio poet Angela De Hoyos (1924-2009). Several local artists, activists, and authors, including Dr. Carmen Tafolla and Rosie Castro, will participate in the tribute.
The program includes music, a ceremonial Aztec dance, poetry readings, video presentation, and an altar of words. The event is free and open to the public. Saturday, Jan. 9th @ 7 p.m. @ the Guadalupe Theater, 1301 Guadalupe St. (corner of S. Brazos and Guadalupe Streets)
Angela De Hoyos played a significant role in the creation, struggle for, and development of the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center as a cultural institution in the community.
The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1980 to preserve, promote and develop the arts and culture of the Chicano/Latino/Native American peoples for all ages and backgrounds through public and educational programming in six disciplines: dance, literature, media arts, theater arts, visual arts and music.
