Cathie Adams wins Tx. Republican Party Chair election

She bests Melinda Fredricks by a 36-25 margin.

The Republican Party of Texas’ executive committee chose Republican National Committee member and longtime conservative activist Cathie Adams as the Party’s new chairman. She takes over for Tina Benkiser who stepped down last month to join Gov. Rick Perry’s re-election campaign.

Adams told members of the State Republican Executive Committee (SREC) that she would resign her seat on the RNC and that she would relinquish her leadership position with the Texas Eagle Forum – a group with which she has been affiliated for 16 years – as a result of her selection as Party chairman.

The State Party chairman automatically has a seat on the RNC so Adams will remain on the RNC.
