Robert Marbut named Chair of OneStar Nat'l Service Comm.


Gov. Rick Perry Names Marbut Chair of OneStar National Service Commission
Also Reappoints Four Members to Commission

Gov. Rick Perry has named Robert G. Marbut (photo) of San Antonio chair of the OneStar National Service Commission and reappointed four members for terms to expire March 15th, 2012. The commission works with the OneStar Foundation to further national service initiatives in Texas and administer the AmeriCorps Texas program.

Marbut is president of Haven for Hope and a professor at Northwest Vista College. He is chair of the Alamo Community College District Academic Integrity Committee, and a former San Antonio City Council member and mayor pro-tempore. He is also a past fellow of Coro Urban Affairs and formerly served in the administration of President George H.W. Bush.

Marbut received three bachelor’s degrees from Claremont McKenna College, a master’s degree in criminal justice from Claremont Graduate University, and a master’s and doctorate degree in government from the University of Texas at Austin.

He replaces Walter Diggles Sr. of Jasper as chair.
