7 Leaders to be honored by Hispanic Sports Foundation


Hispanic Sports Foundation for Education To Induct Seven Leaders to National Hispanic Heritage Hall of Honor

Hispanic Sports Foundation for Education, Inc. National Hispanic Heritage Hall of Honor 2009 Inductees:Athletics:
Cecilio (Cecil) J. Lara, Football, Sul Ross State University & Homer Martinez, Track, Texas A&I University
Arts and Entertainment: Rita Vidaurri, International Singer/Recording Artist
Military: Brig. Gen. Belisario J. Flores, U.S. Air Force, Retired
Education: Dr. Juliet Villarreal Garcia, President, University of Texas at Brownsville
Public Service: Alexander E. Briseno, former City Manager, City of San Antonio
Special Recognition: Pete Ragus, Educator, Coach, Athletic Director

The seven 2009 honorees will be recognized at the Hispanic Sports Foundation’s Annual Awards Ceremony. In addition, the 2009 scholarship recipients will be recognized, Saturday, August 8th from 5-10 p.m. @ the Omni Colonnade Hotel, 9821 Colonnade Blvd.

The Hispanic Sports Foundation for Education, Inc. is a non-profit community service organization. Its mission is “to provide young Hispanics with identifiable role models who will have a positive influence on their lives.” The organization provides financial assistance to high school students to enable them to attend college.

In addition, HSFE recognizes outstanding Hispanic athletes and community leaders in education, public service, military service, business, and arts and entertainment by inducting them into the National Hispanic Heritage Hall of Honor in San Antonio, Texas.
