San Antonio City Council District 8 Accountability Assembly scheduled for June 2nd
COPS and The Metro Alliance leaders will meet on Tuesday, June 2nd @ 7 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 4201 De Zavala Road with San Antonio City Council candidates for District 8’s Runoff Election.
“We want to present our perspective on the economic development opportunities for San Antonio to the candidates,” said Aurora Valek, a parishioner at Our Lady of Guadalupe-Helotes Catholic Church and a North Side Cluster co-chair with COPS/The Metro Alliance, “and ask them to make commitments on investments in human development such as educational programs and workforce development, investments in renewable energy and energy conservation, and investments in infrastructure, including housing.”
“This organization remembers the cost overruns from the first South Texas Nuclear Project, so we don’t want to hand out another blank check. We have serious concerns about our public utility investing billions of dollars to expand the STNP,” said Vicki Tullius from First Unitarian Universalist Church and a North Side Cluster co-chair with COPS/The Metro Alliance.
“We want to explore our options in terms of clean energy, jobs, and economic development for San Antonio, not Bay City, Texas,” Ms. Tullius added.
COPS and The Metro Alliance is an institutionally-based community organization affiliated with the Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF). The organization identifies and trains local leaders to organize families through churches and schools around issues which affect the welfare of families. COPS/The Metro Alliance is non-partisan and does not endorse or support candidates for public office, political parties, or political philosophies.
The organization does teach people how to hold candidates accountable to the communities they are elected to represent.
