Dr. Michael Soto (photo) lays out vision for SAISD –
Tough choices ahead call for bold new leadership
The San Antonio Independent School District is at a crossroads. The next school board will deal with challenging issues: unacceptable school dropout and teenage pregnancy rates, declining student population, maintaining a balanced budget and developing plans on how to best prepare our students for college and the workforce. Dr. Michael Soto’s vision of SAISD is what makes him the best prepared candidate to tackle these tough issues.
Thursday, April 23rd Soto gathered with several of the city’s top educational experts to release his four point plan on engaging students in meaningful, quality learning. It’s going to take a dedicated, fiscally-responsible leader like Soto to help the district chart a course of much-needed change. SAISD deserves a frame of mind that embraces Change rather than business as usual. Dr. Michael Soto is prepared to take this courageous course.
Soto believes that with SAISD at such a critical juncture, our children deserve a thoughtful new board member who demands Great Schools Now. He outlined the contrasts between his vision for education, fueled by his passion as an educator and a parent of a child in SAISD.
When elected, Dr. Michael Soto will be the only sitting SAISD school board member with a child currently attending an SAISD school.
Those who spoke April 23rd in support of Michael's vision:
Eliseo Cadena, SAISD Trustee for District 7
Dr. Ellen Riojas-Clark, Professor of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies, UTSA
Dr. Paul Kelleher, Murchison Distinguished Professor of Education, Trinity University
Randy Murdock, President, Sunshine Estates Neighborhood Association
Mary Esther Bernal, former SAISD Trustee for District 7
Shelley Potter, San Antonio Alliance President
