Local attorney and Chairman of the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (SAHCC), Rolando B. Pablos, has been tapped by the Spanish government to lead diplomatic efforts in the Alamo City. The Spanish ambassador to the U.S., the Honorable Jorge Dezcallar, formalized his appointment of Pablos before a crowd of more than one hundred prominent local business leaders and delegates from Spain during a luncheon hosted today by the World Affairs Council and the SAHCC.
In his address to the World Affairs Council, Dezcallar notes: “Spain must step up efforts to do business with Texas.” Additionally, Spain’s General Consul in Houston, Miguel Angel Mazarambroz said, “Rolando is a strong leader in the community with the international experience required for this post. He is a very well respected leader who will continue to strengthen and expand cultural and commercial ties with Spain.”
Pablos has already begun planning for a commercial trade mission to Spain slated for next July. “We are excited about the many cultural and commercial connections we can make between Spain and San Antonio,” said Pablos. The Spanish founded San Antonio in 1731.
The importance of developing further ties with Spain has been at the forefront of Pablos’ term as Chair of the Hispanic Chamber. In his first month as Chair, Pablos, along with Ramiro A. Cavazos, President and CEO of the Hispanic Chamber met in Spain with government and business leaders to discuss the possibility of working together to promote further trade with Spain; and on Thurs., March 5th, Pablos facilitated a Water Forum where locals were able to learn best practices from some of Spain’s leading water experts.
