Marcheta Evans selected to lead world’s largest counseling association
Marcheta Evans, associate professor and chair in the department of counseling of the UTSA College of Education and Human Development, has been selected to serve as the 2009 president of the American Counseling Association. (ACA)
“To receive this international professional recognition goes beyond words,” said Evans. “I am deeply honored and hope to have an impact on the profession I love so much.”
Founded in 1952, ACA is a not-for-profit, professional and educational organization dedicated to the growth and enhancement of the counseling profession. As the world's largest counseling association with nearly 45,000 members, ACA exclusively represents professional counselors in various practice settings and provides leadership training, publications, continuing education opportunities, and advocacy services to its members.
Additionally, ACA has helped counseling professionals develop their skills, expand their knowledge base and set professional and ethical standards for the counseling profession. As an accomplished author/co-author and presenter of more than 70 journal articles and presentations, Evans has served as the past president of the Association for Creativity in Counseling, chair of the ACA Southern Region and on a number of committees at the national and state level.
Her list of honors include the Texas Association of Counseling and Supervision’s 2006 Counselor Educator of the Year Award, the South Texas Counseling Association’s 2005 Outstanding Public Relations Award and the UTSA 2004 President’s Distinguished Service Award.
