Elena Guajardo announces that she will challenge incumbent Justin Rodriguez to retake the San Antonio City Council District 7 seat she held from 2005 to 2007. In an interview with the San Antonio Express-News on December 27th, Elena said she decided to run after hearing from District 7 constituents that Rodriguez had been unresponsive.
"When you have to call (Rodriguez's) predecessor, that says something," Elena told the Express-News. "We will have a lively debate on our differences in commitment and the differences in our record." Elena added that she is vying for the seat because she can devote more time to the job than Rodriguez."District 7 needs a full-time Council person, someone who can be there for every voter in every neighborhood," says Elena.
"I have always represented 'people interests' not 'special interests.' I believe that the candidate who works the hardest, is best organized and has the resources to communicate with the voters will clinch this election."
"I am determined not to be out worked or out organized, and with your help, I surely will not fail. I want to once again be the person who the people of District 7 can rely on to follow through and get things done."
