Don’t shop for gifts during the holidays – make them! Stop by the San Antonio Museum of Art for an afternoon of paper cutting, hex sign painting, gingerbread house designs, frakturs, weaving, stationary designs, toleware painting and Weihnachtsbaum decorating. Activities based on German American folk traditions. Music and refreshments provided! All ages are welcome to attend.
Starting in 2009, Every first Sunday of the month will be Family Day at SAMA.
Children and families are invited to explore the collections, create art and share Sundays with the family. Enjoy creative and interactive fun to include sketching, painting, storytelling, films, performances and more. Family days are free with Museum admission and free for members. Sunday, January 4th, 2009 – Contemporary Art – Explore hands-on activities inspired by pieces found in the collection. Learn about concepts such as abstract expressionism, minimalism and participate in a collaborative project.
Sunday, February 1st, 2009 – China – Celebrate Chinese New Year, the year of the Ox! Practice calligraphy, make paper lanterns and learn about the Silk Road .
Sunday, March 1st, 2009 – Greek and Roman Art – Celebrate the one anniversary year of the Greek and Roman reinstallation. Build a Roman mosaic, create a Greek vase and try on fashions found in ancient Greece and Rome .
