National Night Out: An Opportunity for Fun, Family, and Friendship

National Night Out is a community and police partnership sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. Typically the first Tuesday of August, in light of the relentless heat in Texas this year, our National Night Out has been moved to Tuesday, October 7th.

I will be out and about in my community in South San Antonio , attending several festivals and events as I do every year. I urge all of you to do the same. Take this fun opportunity to hold a block party or festival in your neighborhood, get to know your neighbors and police officers, and form an alliance against crime.

This is not only a crime-prevention opportunity; it is also a wonderful way to become more involved in your community. Find out where you can volunteer your time and special gifts whether it is for a community organization or for a neighbor in need.

Type in your zip code at
nationalnightout.org for a list of the events in your area. If there aren’t any, take the initiative to host one. Have a potluck gathering on your block and spread the word through flyers or knocking on peoples’ doors. The important thing is that you get outside on October 7th. Turn on your porch light and meet your community. Take the first step to create a safe and trusting neighborhood for you, your family, and your community.
