U.S. Senate Candidate Rick Noriega will join a delegation of Bexar County elected officials Wednesday on the steps of the Bexar County Courthouse to make a major political announcement as his campaign continues to gather momentum for the November general election.
Noriega, a five-term state representative from Houston, will announce a large number of San Antonio-area endorsements from key elected officials and will be joined by supporters and veteran’s groups.“San Antonio voters are key to our success in November,” said Noriega who Saturday completed a two-week training commitment to the Army National Guard where he serves as a lieutenant colonel.
“The elected officials who are endorsing me have large constituencies. Their support is reflective of our campaign’s momentum. The train has left the gate and it’s rolling.”Noriega won the March Democratic Primary for U.S. Senate with more than one million votes, nearly 100,000 more votes than his opponent, John Cornyn, received in the Republican primary.
Noriega believes that dissatisfaction with the war in Iraq, rising and gas and food prices, and the health care crisis are issues that will drive voter turnout in November.“The people of the San Antonio area want change. They want solutions to problems, not a continuation of the status quo that has put them in tough economic times,” Noriega said.
A graduate of Harvard University and the University of Houston, Noriega, 50, served in Afghanistan and was the National Guard’s Laredo Sector Chief for its “Operation Jumpstart” border security campaign. Noriega also coordinated humanitarian relief efforts at Houston’s George R. Brown Convention center as the Hurricane Katrina incident commander there.
Noriega is married to At-Large Houston City Council Member Melissa Noriega. They have two sons, Alex and Ricky.
Rick Noriega is a member of the U. S. Army National Guard. Any use of photos in uniform, rank, or job titles does not constitute an endorsement of the Department of the Army or the Department of Defense.
