Commissioner Tommy Adkisson (photo) convenes Transportation Choices Forum
With ever-increasing fuel prices, congested roads and the looming more stringent ground-level ozone regulations, Commissioner Tommy Adkisson says the time is now to start seriously talking about transportation options.
To that end, Adkisson will host experts in both transportation and land use and development from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 28 at the International Center. Registration for the 2008 Transportation Choices Forum is free, but space is limited to 200 participants.
The half-day workshop will specifically address the issues caused by heavy vehicular traffic, as well as the choices available to alleviate transportation problems in San Antonio and the region. Invited speakers also will address how to achieve a more livable and sustainable community.
Professionals involved or interested in the planning and design of transportation facilities and systems, policy makers – including elected officials – who make decisions regarding transportation, and activists or other members of the general public with an interest in regional transportation policies should attend the workshop.
Confirmed speakers for the event include: Bill Barker, a transportation consultant using his energy expertise at Solar San Antonio; Dr. Reid Ewing, research professor at the National Center for Smart Growth; Michael Replogle, transportation director with Environmental Defense’s Living Cities Program; Dr. Marc Melaina, senior engineer with the Hydrogen Technologies and Systems Center at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory; Lyndon Henry, data analyst for Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
