Lyle Larson leads the effort to protect County's largest Employer

Commissioner Lyle Larson (photo)
Cong. Dist. 23 candidate

The military employs 100,000 people in Bexar County and has an $11.1 billion economic impact. As Chairman of the San Antonio Military Transformation Task Force, Lyle Larson led the effort to protect Bexar County's largest employer. The result -- San Antonio will become the home of military medicine in the world adding 11,000 new jobs and over $2 billion dollars in construction.

Additionally, Lyle Larson is working with commanders at Ft. Sam Houston and Camp Bullis to insure that Camp Bullis becomes an integral part of the military-medical complex. A joint land study is currently underway to protect this installation from further encroachment so that South Texas will fully realize the 2005 BRAC recommendations.

Finally, Lyle Larson is working with commanders at Wilford Hall and BAMC to insure that healthcare delivery for all military retirees remains at the same high level of service after the BRAC recommendations are fully implemented. Lyle is the man who will win back the 23rd District for the Republican Party. Pass along his name to all your friends and family. He's the man to vote for!

We are seeing the field narrow as we come closer to the March 4th Texas primary election. While the candidates are looking at Super Tuesday next week, we have a unique opportunity to tell our Republican Presidential candidates what we think!

News outlets on television, radio, and online will be full of interviews and statements from Huckabee, McCain, Paul, and Romney. I'm glad to tell you that you don't have to wait until they visit Texas to share your opinions.

We are pleased to share with you today our next set of questions related to social issues, which are of vital concern to our Party activists.

Remember that the results of these surveys will be provided directly to each presidential candidate. We want your voice to be heard right now even as the candidates are in other states.
I hope that I can count on you to complete our Presidential Issues Survey by visiting
www.texasgop.org/survey4

We are hearing what the candidates have to say in their debates, TV appearances, websites, and other forums. However, are they hearing what we have to say to them? Our Presidential Issues Survey will make it clear which issues are important to Texas Republicans and exactly what we expect them to do.

As the campaign has moved into Super Tuesday with states across the country voting, this campaign is still going strong. Texas has 140 delegates to the Republican National Convention. So Texas Republicans will have a major say in who the nominee of our Party will be! Let’s use that influence for our conservative principles.

Don’t wait until the March 2008 primary to speak out on your issues, take our survey by clicking www.texasgop.org/survey4

For this week's series of issues, we are looking at social issues. Few areas of policy provide such a clear distinction between the Republican and Democratic parties. The right to life, traditional marriage, and even international genocide are key factors as our voters head to the polls this year.

Take part in our survey today to find out, just click here www.texasgop.org/survey4

Remember, once the results are collected for our series of surveys, we’ll be forwarding the results to our participants and also directly to the presidential campaigns. Don’t miss your chance to participate.

Thank you for being part of this important project for Texas Republicans. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,
Tina Benkiser
Chairman
Republican Party of Texas

P.S. It is vitally important that we receive a response from a wide range of Texas Republican voters. That’s why I’m asking you not only to complete our online survey, but we are also encouraging you to share this survey with your friends and family after you’re done.

Defenders of the American Dream Award goes to 17

Seventeen Legislators Receive “Defenders of the American Dream” Award
In Taxpayers’ Legislative Report Card

State Representatives Carl Isett (R-Lubbock), Ken Paxton (R-McKinney) and Sen. Dan Patrick (R-Houston) all each received A-plus grades in a newly-released taxpayers’ legislative report card.

“Three legislators were at the top of the class with A-plus ratings while 17 legislators received A’s,” said Peggy Venable, AFP-Texas director. “These legislators voted consistently for free enterprise and taxpayer protections and will receive the AFP Defending the American Dream award.”

This is the second year Americans for Prosperity-Texas has rated legislative votes and issued the taxpayers’ legislative report cards.

Top award winners in the Texas House include Representatives Leo Berman (R-Tyler), Betty Brown (R-Athens), Fred Brown (R-Bryan), Byron Cook (R-Corsicana), Dan Flynn (R-Canton), Dan Gattis (R-Georgetown), Rick Hardcastle (R-Vernon), Bryan Hughes (R-Marshall), Phil King (R-Weatherford), Larry Phillips (R-Sherman), Debbie Riddle (R-Houston), Joe Straus (R-San Antonio), Robert Talton (R-Pasadena) and Corbin Van Arsdale (R-Houston).

“We congratulate and thank these legislators as champions for taxpayers,” said Venable. “We appreciate their leadership in keeping taxes low while fulfilling the appropriate role of government.”

“While these legislators protected taxpayers, fourteen legislators got F’s,” said Venable. “Those legislators failed to protect taxpayer’s interests.”

“Citizens deserve to know how legislators voted on issues that are important to taxpayers,” said Venable.

Forty-six house members received a grade of “B” and were designated “Friend of the Taxpayer.” In determining the grades, 21 House votes and 17 Senate votes taken during the 80th Texas Legislative session were scored. The votes were selected based on AFP’s mission to support the principles of entrepreneurship and fiscal and regulatory restraint and taxpayer protections.

The report card and votes are available on the AFP-Texas website at
www.afptx.org.
