The primary purpose of her candidacy is to protect the constitutional rights of all Texans

AUSTIN – Texas District Judge Susan Criss filed as a Democratic candidate for Place 8 on the Texas Supreme Court. Criss, a veteran district court judge and a former prosecutor, issued the following remarks following her filing:

"The primary purpose of my campaign is to fight to protect the constitutional rights of all of our citizens. The most important work the Texas Supreme Court does is review cases and determine whether trials were conducted fairly and according to the law. I bring a new perspective based on actual courtroom experience earned from presiding over hundreds of cases as a trial court judge and from handling thousands of cases as a trial court attorney. I have worked in the courtroom trying cases with juries for over twenty years. I have been there in the trenches and know firsthand how the jury system works.”

Judge Susan Criss is an advocate for fairness and equal opportunity in the justice system. She is recognized around the nation for leadership on behalf of women judges and the recruitment of minorities for careers in the law.

Judge Susan Criss was elected to the 212th District Court in Galveston County in 1998 and has been reelected twice. Judge Criss presides over both felony criminal and civil cases. She has spearheaded tougher sanctions against sex offenders and fought for stronger protection for children.
