Chris Milam speaks out in favor of Proposition 13, which will be on the November 6th ballot.
As Sheriff of Bexar County protecting our citizens will be my highest priority. The dangerous behavior of those who threaten the lives of innocent people, the families, children and elderly in our community, will not be tolerated. I join State Rep. Joe Straus and State Senator Jeff Wentworth in support of Proposition 13 which denies bail in both felony and misdemeanor cases to those who have previous violations relating to family violence offences and are considered a continued threat to the community.
This Proposition 13 will allow my law enforcement officers to track down, lock up and detain, in my detention facility, these family violence offenders. Having enough space will never be an issue for this Sheriff regarding those who either can’t or won’t adhere to a judge’s Protective Order. This policy will give District Judges the 48 hours needed to safeguard families from those individuals who continue to break the law.
My policy is clear “It is about the victim not the criminal”. The light will be on in my detention center 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for those who cannot respect the rights of others.
