Botero Exhibit coming to a close at Museum of Art

The San Antonio Museum of Art Summer Blockbuster Exhibition will Soon Come to an End

San Antonio –The San Antonio Museum of Art’s summer blockbuster The Baroque World of Fernando Botero, composed of 99 works of art by Latin America ’s most popular living artist, will come to an end on August 19th. The internationally acclaimed retrospective exhibition has thrilled visitors all summer and will be on display at the San Antonio Museum of Art and Southwest School of Art and Craft for only three more weeks.

Public Tours of The Baroque World of Fernando Botero will take place on Sunday, August 5, 2 pm and Sunday, August 19 at 2 and 3 p.m. at the San Antonio Museum of Art. These docent-led tours give the public a more in-depth, educated look on Botero’s work and are free with Museum and exhibition admission.

Children and families will have the opportunity to explore drawing techniques similar to Botero’s in the Rotund World of Fernando Botero workshop. Join local artist Jorge Garza on Saturday, August 11 from 2 to 4 pm in the San Antonio Museum of Art’s Cowden Gallery. The family activity is free with Museum and exhibition admission. Attendance is limited to 15, so arrive early to ensure your participation. Participants should meet at the front desk and are encouraged to bring their own sketchpads and pencils.

The Baroque World of Fernando Botero offers viewers works by Latin America ’s distinctive artist in his diverse range of media. Botero’s international appeal rests largely with his immediately recognized style. He has applied his "inflated" stylization to subjects ranging from art historical precedents to scenes of political turmoil in contemporary life. Paintings, prints and sculptures from the artist’s personal collection are all on display at the exhibition’s two locations.
