Frontier Fourth at Institute of Texan Cultures

UTSA's Institute of Texan Cultures will host a "Frontier Fourth" on Wednesday, July 4, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

The Back 40 living history area will come to life with the ITC's Texas Characters and costumed junior docents recreating the Texas frontier of the 1800s. Families are invited to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the sounds of a brass band, along with all the frontier activities like make & take crafts (rag dolls, spurs) and games (sack races, piƱata).

The highlight of the day will be a flag retirement ceremony at noon by Boy Scout Troop 360. In a proper decommissioning service, weathered and damaged U.S. flags will be solemnly shredded and burned to a salute and playing of taps.
