Artist Robert Rehm at Jump Start Gallery

Dear Friends,

I would like to invite you to a very special Art Exhibition of Robert Rehm’s work at The Jump Start Theatre to be held Thursday and Friday, July 5th and 6th. As Robert’s assistant I am very aware of his talent and skill in both art and theatre. Robert, a 54 year old theatre arts teacher suffered a tragic fall from the Jefferson High School stage on March, 2005 in San Antonio, Texas as he rehearsed his students for an upcoming play.

He has adjusted to his new life, paralyzed from the neck down, by keeping his mind busy and involved in writing scripts, teaching workshops, designing set designs, costumes and works of art on the computer through the puff and blow technology of today.“Hot Wheels and Hot Lips” is the title of Robert Rehm’s first one-man show to be held this July 5th at the Jumpstart Theatre’s lobby as part of the city of San Antonio ’s Contemporary Art Month’s artistic event.

Part of the work is done with his mouth using paintbrushes attached to rods with special mouth pieces. The other work is entirely created with wheels and various attachments he drags over canvases and paper from his self-propelled wheel chair using a straw through which he blows special commands. As Robert independently maneuvers his chair over his work he, carefully paints and draws the powerful images he holds in his creative mind and soul.

The largest piece in the collection is a 5’ X 8’ canvas that repeats a war scene familiar to us on three distinct color field backgrounds of brilliant reds, blues and greens. The process also involves large cut stencils we prepare to his specifications that allow him to create images of distinct clarity and form from his original computer crafted designs.

Please plan to join us for a live free demonstration on July 5th and 6th from 6-8 pm. Have a great summer and see you soon.
