The Walker Report has hit yet another milstone by surpassing the 600 mark for postings since June 16th. Actually this is the 607th post to be exact. Obviously I wasn't paying attention when the 600th opportunity to post came and went this weekend.
With the flurry of postings during the November election cycle past, it was assumed by many, including myself, that the activity on the Walker Report would somehow diminsh. Fortunately that is not the case and the Walker Report is humming along in its effort to continue to promote Democrats and expand its reach to non-political events that benefit the community.
Now we are gearing up for the municipal races which will cuminate in an election day in May. The political process is once again in full swing as numerous candidates, both Democrats & Republicans declare their intent to run for the non-partisan positions on the San Antonio City Council. Of course other elections on that same day include bond issues, school board elections, and suburban council races as well.
As a sitting Balcones Heights Councilman up for re-election in May, I will be busy blockwalking and soliciting votes just as those who opt to run for the San Antonio City Council.
In the past few months, the Walker Report has expanded its focus somewhat to include events such as the Small, Minority Business Women's Conference held at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, the monthly meetings of the Latino Breakfast (business networking) a fundraiser for the Children's Hospital hosted by KENS-5 Sportcaster Joe Reinagel and Spurs Robert Horry, the Eastside's Neighborhood First Alliance and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. March.
In March we intend to cover the Cesar Chavez March as well. We are attempting to add links to officeholders and organizations to inform our readers about what is going on in the community.
Since we are inclusive and do not favor one candidate over another, we invite all those candidates who are running for the San Antonio City Council to send us information about their campaigns and events so that we may post them.
Our readership is increasing by the day and we are getting hits on the blog from China, Denmark, India and all over the United States. The media is reading us as well. On more than one occasion some local media have asked if they can reprint some of our photos.
Welcome to 2007, the year of the Walker Report.
