Diane Cibrian is officially a declared candidate for the San Antonio City Council District 8 seat. In a prepared speech before about 150 supporters at the Wurbach Estates on Wurzbach Road, Cibrian says she is ready to assume the mantle of responsibility of representing her neighbors and ensuring they have a voice and a seat at the table when it comes to their district.
Running on a platform of capping or reducing taxes, Cibrian told the cheering crowd that she was ready for work and ready to do what it takes to make District 8 a better and safer place to live.
Like a head cheerleader leading a pep rally, she was interrupted more than once during her address with cheers and applause. Her 10-year-old daughter, Cristina, introduced her to the crowd and her good friend Kim Bowers highlighted her accomplishments over the years.
Enthusiastic supporters donned Cibrian campaign shirts and took campaign signs home with them when the event was over. Large stacks of yard signs were available, along with tee-shirts, and political brochures.
The first official day to file for office is February 12th. The filing deadline is March 12th. The election will be held Saturday, May 12th.
