Democrat Elena Guajardo named Official of Year

Elena Guajardo named Public Official of the Year by the National Association of Social Workers/Texas Chapter.
Arlington: San Antonio City Councilwoman Elena Guajardo was named “Public Official of the Year” by the National Association of Social Workers’ (NASW) Texas Chapter.
Libby Kay, President of NASW/Texas said “The award honors individuals who have demonstrated significant contributions that are consistent with the values and mission of social work.”
Kay congratulated Guajardo in receiving “one of our profession’s most prestigious awards.” The award was presented at the NASW state conference being held in Arlington, TX.Councilwoman Guajardo is trained in social work and earned a Masters of Social Work (MSW) from Our Lady of the Lake’s Worden School of Social Service.
“I am humbled to receive this honor” said Guajardo noting that social workers are diligently serving every day and have great insight into the immediate needs of our communities.
Additionally, Guajardo emphasized, “it is the voice of the people they serve that are too often the very last voices heard and the first whose budgets are to be cut.”
“Social workers are the advocates of those whose voice needs to be heard”, she add “Therefore, I am quite proud to represent serve as an advocate for social workers.”
Elena Guajardo was elected to San Antonio’s City Council District 7 on June 7, 2005. Elena brings her unique combination of experiences in small business, corporate America, the non-profit sector and training as a social worker to City Council.
