Rodriguez responds to Bolanos exit from race

San Antonio)-Ciro Rodriguez, Democratic Party candidate for Texas Congressional District 23, made the following statement this afternoon:

"Rick Bolanos and Lukin Gilliland are both good Democrats who realize that the goal in this race for Congress is to soundly defeat Henry Bonilla, who has abandoned the people of District 23. Bonilla is a Republican who has sold out the people he is supposed to represent. Now he only speaks for the special interests-including pharmaceutical companies and munitions manufacturers-who have filled his campaign war chest with millions of dollars.

"Among the seven candidates challenging Bonilla, I am the best qualified by experience to defeat the incumbent. I am hopeful that when the time comes-in the runoff-Rick, Lukin and the other Democrats in this race will unite with me to return District 23 to the people.

"This race for Congress is critical not only to our congressional district, but to our country as well. The Republican majority in Congress, and the Republican President, has created a monumental mess that will take strong leadership on the part of Democrats to correct.

"The federal debt is approaching $9 trillion, the war in Iraq is a military disaster and a personal tragedy for the families who have lost loved ones; the Constitution is under direct assault by Bush, the international community distrusts us, and our potential enemies are arming themselves against us.

"Next Monday early voting begins. I urge the people of the 23rd District to go to the polls and do their duty. Election day is no time to stay home in this crucial election year."

  1. Uresti's comments seem bitter and petty when compared to this one by former and future congressman Rodriguez.

If all southsiders and residents of the 23rd will unite behind Ciro, we can defeat Bonilla, and have a congressman with seniority in a Democrat controlled House of Representatives -- who will then be a high ranking Democrat -- to better serve the people of the 23rd district.

We need a person who lives in the 23rd to represent the 23rd (not Gilliland) -- we need a leader, not a bitter person (not Uresti) -- we need Ciro!

    I'm with you Ciro!

  2. Can we all agree to quit using the Republicant's moniker of us. "Democrat Controlled House" should be DemocratIC controlled House. The Republicants have been trying to remove the IC out of Democratic because they don't want people to think of us as a democratic party.
